Access to Information
The Northern Ireland Guardian ad Litem Agency (NIGALA) routinely makes available information on our website, some of which can be accessed through our Publication Scheme.
In order to comply with the Freedom of Information Act public sector organisations such as ours routinely publish information whenever possible. The Information Commissioner is responsible for monitoring and enforcing compliance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000, and has drawn up a Model Publication Scheme for all public sector organisations which we have adopted. You can search the NIGALA Publication Scheme here
However there may be information about NIGALA and our business which is not currently available on our website. Details of how to access this information are shown below.
Freedom of Information (FOI)
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives the public a general right of access to written information held by public authorities, which includes all Health and Social Care Trusts, Boards, Councils and Agencies. It is designed to encourage a more open and accountable government. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, we are committed to providing timely and accessible information to the public and responding to reasonable requests for information.
Environmental Information Regulations 2004
The Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) 2004 give the public a general right of access to environmental information held by public authorities. To request information please contact us.
All public and private organisations in the United Kingdom including the NIGALA are legally obliged to comply with the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2018. This Act provides individuals with a right of access to their own personal information, which will usually be in the form of a copy of the information held. All requests for information should be in writing (by letter or email) and include a return address for the purpose of corresponding. To ensure that we meet your request as fully as possible, it is essential that any request for information clearly sets out what information is being sought and describes the information in as much detail as possible. This will avoid us having to contact you seeking clarification, which might delay our response to a request. Find our Information Governance Policy here
