NIGALA is keen to hold conferences that provide a platform to ‘hear’ directly about the issues which impact on the children and young people who are part of the care system in Northern Ireland and as such are amongst the most vulnerable in our society.
Each child and young person has an intrinsic right to be supported to reach their best health and well-being potential including the full integration into the mainstream of family, community and working life.

2020 – Are We Listening?
‘I have the right to be safe and to have a better life. Make my life as good as it can be’. NIGALA held its 2020 Conference in February 2020 entitled Are we Listening? It was influenced in its design by children and young people and was important for those of us working in health, social care and justice. It was an opportunity to participate in reflection, discussion and debate.
2017 – What Have we Learned and What Can We Do Better?
NI Guardian Ad Litem Agency (NIGALA) was established in Northern Ireland in 1996. It held its 21st Anniversary Conference in November 2017 entitled 21 Years of Representing Children and Young People – What Have we Learned and What Can We Do Better? It was hugely successful and had a major input from young people who have had a Guardian ad Litem.
